What is the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Counseling Center?

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Counseling Center of North Kent Guidance Services provides counseling services for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, inter-sexed, genderqueer, and straight ally individuals. Our goal is to create an environment that is open and safe for individuals of all sexualities and gender identities and expressions. Counseling sessions focus on the unique and progressing journeys of the LGBT population and offers support to those who are challenging gender and sexuality stereotypes.

What Specific Areas are Addressed During Counseling?

The journey of embracing a sexual identity or gender identity can be challenging. Therefore, you might wish to have some support directly addressing areas specific to the LGBT population. These areas could include, but are not limited to:
  • Questioning/Negotiating/Understanding Sexual Identity and Gender Identity
  • Navigating the Coming Out Process
  • Coping with and Addressing Societal Discrimination and Prejudice
  • Parenting Skills and Support
  • Parents of Children who are Coming Out
  • Same-Sex Parents Raising Children
  • Locating Specific Services and Resources
  • Preparing for and Navigating the Journey of Transition
